Features to know about

Upgrade Old or Weak Brakes: Self-Adjusting 10" Electric Assemblies for 3,500-lb Axles

If your trailer still has worn drums or brakes that drag, these etrailer 10" x 2-1/4" electric assemblies make a big difference. They bolt right onto a standard 4-bolt brake flange and fit 13", 14", and 15" wheels on 3,500-lb axles. Each assembly comes ready to mount, with a left- and right-hand side included, so you can replace both brakes in one go. Once installed, they deliver smooth, even braking without the hassle of hydraulic lines or actuators—just connect to an electric brake controller and hit the road.

Consistent Braking Without Manual Adjustments: Self-Adjusting Mechanism

Older drum brakes need routine manual tweaks to keep up their stopping power. These self-adjusting brakes handle that automatically. As the pads wear, an internal tension cable keeps the shoes in proper alignment so they always contact the drum evenly. That means consistent performance trip after trip and no more crawling under the trailer to fine-tune adjustments.

Built for Long Life and Smooth Stops: Automotive-Grade Bonded Pads

The friction pads use the same SAE-N certified material found in automotive drum brakes for reliable braking torque and quiet operation. Bonded—not riveted—pads eliminate the metal rivet noise when shoes wear down and give more friction surface for stronger stops. Their tapered edges also help prevent stutter or lockup as they wear, keeping braking smooth and predictable.

Protected Against Rust and Road Debris: E-Coated Backing Plates

Moisture and dirt can ruin backing plates over time, but these assemblies are built to last. The e-coat finish resists rust and corrosion caused by road grime or saltwater spray. Included adjuster plugs shield internal parts from debris, helping the brakes stay clean inside and ready to perform when needed.

Tested and Certified for Road Safety: QAI, CSA, and SAE-N Standards

Each assembly meets QAI, CSA, and SAE-N performance certifications for safe use on highways throughout the U.S. and Canada. The result is a dependable set of trailer brakes that stay balanced, self-maintaining, and ready for long hauls or everyday towing.

A very positive review. The ETRAILER Team provided excellent customer service. The entire team did a Great Job. The delivery was slowed down because of weather, but the ETRAILER Team kept me updated. One item on my order was incorrect, but they resolved the issue immediately. I have used ETRAILER for my trailer needs in the past and will continue to use them going forward.

My Thanks to the ENTIRE ETRAILER TEAM

Excellent, put lots of miles on the trailer and the trailer brakes have never worked better

by:
Etrailer staff is great!!! With all the 'junk' being sold by RV manufacturers these days, you can never be certain of what you've bought, but with enough research and support from folks at Etrailer you can find what you need. Just finished install and burnish process of new hubs with bearings and brake assemblies on my 2022 NOBO, and all went well. Now to camping!! thanks
by:
My camper threw out the rear wheel bearings about 3.5 hours from home, and I was stuck. I called etrailer and Sara R walked me through the correct order from the sticker on my existing axle. I left the camper and returned home, and the order arrived in 3 days with 2 left brakes. Sara offered to ship out a right brake immediately. I sourced one locally since I was heading back to the camper that morning, and the team at etrailer refunded me the extra left brake and told me to keep it as a spare. When I have another axle need, etrailer will be my first call! Thank you, Sara R!
by:
Bolts up perfect to the Lippert 3.5K torsion axel on my Aluma trailer. You will need 8 7/16x20 lock nuts for the studs on backing plates.
by:
Last year when I bought these brakes they came with nuts for bolting on assembly. This last time , no nuts. Just an inconvenience that I had to go to the local hardware store and get eight nuts.
by:
The product itself is very good. The big issue I have is you do not include the 7/16-20 nuts required to bolt these to the Axle. This size thread is not easy to attain (I drove to 5 stores to get 8 nuts). It is a pretty simple thing to send the hardware needed to bolt up your component.
by:
Arrived quick, brake shoes were a bit of a mess after opening the box due to lack of packaging inside box, like having all new parts to swap out except for the 4 nuts that hold the assembly to the axle. Would like to know why that is?
by:
product seems to be well built. The pads looked to be a little thin but it all went together very well. having the shoes assembled on the backing plate made the job a lot easier.
by:
Installed both sides February 2025. The left brake constantly over tightened, to the point the wheel would barely turn when jacked up. I replaced the original manual adjustment brakes with these. Over the course of about 7k miles on various trips, had to loosen the left side at least 5 times.

Finally called etrailer support. There was really no help other than replace the brakes and unfortunately I was 2 months out of warranty. Not really happy. Decided to go back to manual brakes, which I ordered. Didn't want to possibly have to fight the self adjuster again after doing all the work to replace the brakes (again).

Would have been nice to get some consideration from etrailer since the brakes were barely out of warranty and just now being checked at the start of a new camping season, but wasn't offered anything, not even a small discount on the replacement brakes (and I'm a long time customer with many purchases). Oh well.
by:
I felt the products were very high quality. (self adjusting trailer brakes) But I wasn’t paying attention when I ordered because the brakes came as a set of two and when I ordered the hub and drum assembly, I only ordered one thinking they were also a set. So, I have the passenger side of my trailer complete as I wait for the second hub and drum assembly.

So, I’d recommend them for sure. Note: the brake assemblies do not come with mounting hardware, so a trip to the hardware store is required: 7/16x20 nuts and washers are needed. Eight in all.
by:
Complete brakes and bearings install on our Kiefer two horse trailer. Easy install, same as Dexter!
by:
Super easy installation, 4 nuts, a couple of wire connections and that's about it. They are self adjusting which is a nice change from the last time I did the breaks. I noticed right away how much smoother my camper was breaking so I'm very happy with these breaks. I just wish that they were made in the USA instead of China.
I need to mention how fast and responsive etrailer was with getting the parts here and letting me know what was happening with the order. You guys rock!
by:
Excellent! Smooth breaking on my boat trailer since installing them. I just plugged the line for the hydraulic hitch brake and adjusted it tight. so no more bumping when straring and stopping while towing my boat! just rermber to unplug them when backing the trailere in the water. and reconnect after loading the boat and prerp to toe down the road. Thanks Etrailer!
by:
Item recieved in good condition , shipping was good. Brakes fit as the should and worked fine. I also ordered a new breakaway battery and switch as old one was defective.
Thanks
by:
Parts were just as expected, clean, solid and good quality.
I have used etrailer many times before and have always been happy with the products.
by:
Simply, you guys are the best. Your customer service is outstanding. Thanks for you attention to detail. I'm about to place another order with you.
Thanks

1986 Terry Taurus 24' travel trailer. These fit great! Thank you for the parts. I also hooked a Curt #C52042 to them just in case. That required a bit more wiring but it charges when hooked to the truck and when disconnected works just like it should.
by:
Would be even better if nuts were included for installation
by:
Easy to install and worked great , will put on all my trailers when needed..
by:
Great, fast shipping. Some people have said it needs better packing. I ordered two (Right and Left). One did arrive "ajar". However, it's easy to fix. Just get a ten-inch piece of 2x4 wood, and a hammer and knock it back into place. Use the wood between the hammer and the brake as a cushion. I will write an update after I install them. I am happy with my purchase. I don't think any more packing would help the "jarring out of alignment". The brakes are sort of spring-loaded. It can happen because of the springs and bummpy transportation. I will post an update after I install them and use them. I don't anticipate any problems. This is a honest review and five stars happy.

The self-adjusting trailer brakes are great. After I installed them and had the wheels back on, I had a compulsive urge to take the dust covers off and begin turning the star-nut and adjust them. But, I resisted and after about a ten mile test drive with many traffic lights and a spin on the freeway, the brakes work great. There is no need to turn the star-nut by hand. It self-adjusts.

by:
Old brakes and new brakes. I know, I disturbed years of spider handy work, nasty. Totally happy with my first purchase and the fact that I got the right ones. I actually had no idea they came assembled like they do. I wouldn't of sand blasted and painted the base plates. So happy with the results. Thank you etrailer!

Its been a year and a day since I last posted how happy I was with these brakes I purchased. I wish I could say that Ive taken this 1968 completely rebuilt from the ground up camper on a trip, but I cant. Im not done yet. I can tell you that I did hook up to the truck with the camper jacked up and was able to test the brakes and they worked perfectly. I also adjusted them because I had initially set them loosely to fit right on. Adjusting them can be sort of tricky, but etrailers videos are very helpful and I was able to set them just right. I would have been totally done this summer, but getting a new VIN number is currently in the works as well as curtains and cushions. Rebuilding old campers is not for everyone, but finding etrailer early on for me was another tool in the arsenal. Good luck everyone with your projects. Theres nothing like getting it done yourself.

Product as described. My apologies, I don't recall the name of the gentleman that helped me, answered my questions, but he was knowledgable, professional and efficient. Order was shipped very quickly! Great service!

Backing plates are well built. Much easier to replace than rebuild. Bearings and races fit my 10 X 2 1/4 hub and drum.

Awesome service and super fast shipping.

Excellent customer service the second time. The first guy sent me the wrong brakes, but the second order, the lady was most helpful and they fit perfectly.

  • Can I Add Electric Brakes To A 1993 EZ Loader Boat Trailer
Hello Mike. It sounds like you are wanting to add electric brakes to your boat trailer that currently has no brakes. This is possible, but you will first need to make sure that your axle is equipped with a brake flange at the base of the spindle. The brake flange is necessary for adding brakes. If you do have a brake flange, you will next need to determine your bearing sizes. Electric brakes will require new hubs and drum assemblies, and we need to be sure that there is a drum available...
